Today, there is a lot of music out there for everyone to listen to. As I have a dear love for music, it has enabled myself to do lots of digging and find a variety of albums that I like listening to.
So, here you have it, my 5 favourite albums in no particular order.
1. Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo
The Life of Pablo (TLOP) released on 14th February 2016, being a Valentine’s gift to all. Boasting 19 tracks of pure ecstasy and energy I heavily enjoy this album has it appeals to everyone. From gospel tracks to straight raps with great production there is no reason as to why someone shouldn’t like this album.
2. Frank Ocean’s Blonde
Frank Ocean released this album out of nowhere and it was well worth it. Featuring 17 tracks, the album takes you on a theoretical trip of high emotions, whether it be happiness, sadness, lust or love, this album resonates heavily in my heart. Though the songs are not your usual radio hit, they still serve a purpose, with such intimacy attracting the ear; songs about everyday lives allows fans to fit into his shoes and this what makes the album 100x better. The stories Frank tells here find solace in sorrow.
3. Earl Sweatshirt’s Doris
In 2013, Earl Sweatshirt aged 19 released Doris. The album boasts 15 songs with hard hitting production with even harder bars, each track sonically different as well as lyrically. It dives into his own personal life, expressing various thoughts throughout majority of the album. Earl uses these songs to be reminiscent of his past and opinions about his fame at the time as well as speak on his drug use.
4. Kids See Ghosts (Kanye West & Kid Cudi)’s Self-Titled (Kids See Ghosts)
Seven tracks long of pure euphoria. If this album doesn’t help you get out of bed, I don’t know what else will. The bond between Kid Cudi and Kanye West is unreal and never seen before. The pair yield melancholy yet empowering album about brokenness as well as rebuilding yourself and being the best, you can be, which personally just hits home.
5. Joey Bada$$’s 1999
At the age of 17 Joey Bada$$ released 1999 as a young man with an ‘old head’ soul. His debut mixtape showcases his skills as a highly developed wordsmith with a vision. The use of shimmering keys, gentle background singing and jazz type production, it makes the album very enjoyable as well as listenable as it allows his voice to be perfectly heard which makes it an even better experience for the listener. One of my favourite lyrics from the project would have to be "Like I told you, I know N****s who trash rapping/ Worried 'bout the tending fashions rather than ascendin' passion."
Below are the albums in their respective order according to the post.
